Coordination of Volonteers (COVO)

An EU Project coordinated by Ausbildung im Diakonie-Zentrum Salzburg

The involvement of volunteers in social work is gaining importance: on the one hand, social institutions require the dedication of volunteers to complement their services in valuable and interesting ways. On the other hand, this creates meaningful venues of participation for many people.

Practical experiences of social organisations show that volunteer work can develop its full potential only when these volunteer services are coordinated in the best possible way.

The EU COVO project deals with the question of how social services staff can be qualified to ensure optimum coordination and guidance of volunteer services. It refers to the results of the Equal Partnership “Professions and Training in the Health and Social Services”. These were examined for their contributions towards coordination competency of volunteer services and then related to the experiences of the project partners from Germany, Estonia, Latvia, Poland and Austria.

The result of COVO is the present modular CURRICULUM for coordination of volunteer services. It is designed for trainers who want to improve the coordination competencies of full-time staff in social services as well as to teachers at vocational schools for social services.
